How to Unzip or Extract Files

A ZIP file, like other archive file formats, is simply a collection of files, compressed into a single file to make it smaller and easier to share.

Do you need to open up a file that is zipped? Here is a step-by-step guide.

To unzip (extract) files or folders from a zipped folder

  1. Locate the zipped folder that you want to unzip (extract) files or folders from.

  2. To unzip a single file or folder, open the zipped folder, then drag the file or folder from the zipped folder to a new location.

  3. To unzip all the contents of the zipped folder, press and hold (or right-click) the folder, select Extract All, and then follow the instructions.

Security Tip!

Remember - never open a file that you receive via e-mail unless you are expecting it (even if it is from someone you know) - it could contain a virus!
