Mute, silence or ignore e-mail threads

Frustrated by long e-mail conversations about fantasy football or a specific driver's ed class that don't apply to you?  There is an easy way in Outlook, web Outlook, and Google, to mute / ignore them (and unmute them!) so you can automatically delete them and stop all the replies from cluttering your inbox.
