Mute a Gmail Thread

Mute a Gmail Thread

Don’t need to read every response to a Gmail? Follow these steps to ignore the conversation.

  1. Right-click on the email message you want to mute. Select Mute from the drop-down list.

  2. The email message will be moved to your archive, and future responses will skip your inbox unless they are sent or cc’d directly to you.

  3. To find a muted thread, search for it as you would a regular email message. If you cannot remember the subject line, you can search is:muted to pull up a list of all email threads that you have muted.

  4. To unmute a thread, right-click the muted email message and select Unmute.

  5. This does not move the conversation back to your inbox from your archive, but future email messages will show up in your inbox.

  6. If you want to move a muted or unmuted message from your archive to your inbox, right-click it, and click Move to inbox.
